Let’s Open the Gates on Pico Together
Published on Mon Oct 14 2024
For decades, gates along Pico Boulevard have blocked easy access for all of us—families, seniors, children, and cyclists alike. These barriers make it harder to get to the bus, school, church, and even friends’ houses. Now is the time for us to come together to make our streets more accessible and connected.
How You Can Help: Make Your Voice Heard
On November 4, 2024, at 7 pm, the Olympic Park Neighborhood Council will hold a meeting at the LAPD West Traffic Division Community Room to discuss this issue. Your presence can help demonstrate the community’s unified support for opening the gates.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of our neighborhood. By joining us, you’re adding your voice to a larger movement for fairness and accessibility. Together, we can make our neighborhood a place that’s open to everyone.
Why This Matters
The gates limit our freedom to move around our own neighborhood. These are public streets, maintained by taxpayer dollars, yet access is restricted. This setup isolates a large part of our community, creating longer, inconvenient detours. It’s especially challenging for people with disabilities, seniors, and young students who rely on safe and direct routes.
Removing these gates will:
- Create safer, shorter routes for children heading to school
- Restore access for people with mobility challenges
- Ensure public streets are available for all of us, as they should be
We believe our neighborhood should be safe, inclusive, and accessible for everyone, not just a select few.
